Land Trust GIS is a joint project of GreenInfo Network in partnership with the Land Trust Alliance.  Begun in 2004, the project emerged out of extensive involvement in land trusts and their use of GIS by all of the sponsor organizations.  GreenInfo Network currently maintains the site.

Funding for the initial development of this portal came from The David and Lucile Packard Foundation’s Conserving California Landscapes Initiative (conducted during 1998-2003).  A key feature of this initiative was to develop the capacity of land trusts and related organizations, as well as to support their conservation of particular lands. LandTrustGIS current does not have a regular source of support - if you have recommendations for such support, we welcome your interest.
