Using the Web for Mapping

This section describes how land trusts can use the World Wide Web for map browsing and some GIS functions.

Web mapping can be as simple as uploading a digital image of a GIS map you have produced, or as complicated as hosting an entire storehouse of data in an interactive map server.

Here are links in this site to different levels of web-based mapping:

  • Basic - get your images up, use simple on-line tools for maps over the web
  • Advanced - make more use of images you upload, use more advanced web sites for mapping functions
  • Expert - develop your own Internet-based map server, link to other IMS sites
